Everything you need — whether you're thinking about joining our coaching staff or you're a returning coach getting ready for the season. Resources, certification, rules, and more — all in one place.
Coaching youth football is one of the most impactful things you can do for young people in your community. The lessons athletes learn on the field — discipline, teamwork, resilience — stay with them for life.
As a WYF coach you're not just coaching a youth team — you're part of a unified program that runs from Kindergarten through varsity football at Westview High School. The culture you build matters.
WYF covers your USA Football Heads Up certification — the sport's only nationally accredited coaching course. You'll receive comprehensive training in safe tackling, concussion awareness, heat safety, and more.
You'll be joining a team of passionate, volunteer coaches who care deeply about football and this community. Led by Dan Weaver — UO Hall of Famer and Westview High School Head Coach — you'll learn from the best.
The fall season runs August through October — a clear, defined commitment that fits around your life. Practices are no more than twice a week and games are on weekends through the TVYFL schedule.
You don't need to have played college football to be an outstanding youth coach. What matters is character, commitment, and a genuine care for young athletes. We'll teach you everything else.
There's no lengthy application process. Reach out to President Dan Weaver directly — tell us a little about yourself, what program you're interested in coaching, and any football background you have. Dan will connect with you personally and walk you through the next steps.
Contact Dan Weaver →Email westviewyouthfootball@gmail.com with your interest. Dan responds personally to all coaching inquiries.
All coaches and volunteers who work directly with athletes complete a background screening — required by TVYFL.
Complete the Heads Up Football coach certification through USA Football before your first practice. WYF will provide details on accessing the course.
Once cleared, you're ready to coach. Practices begin August 10th (tackle) and August 24th (flag) for the fall 2026 season.

All WYF programs operate under the rules and guidelines established by the Tualatin Valley Youth Football League (TVYFL). As a coach, it's your responsibility to know and follow TVYFL rules for your specific program. The TVYFL website is the authoritative source for all current rules, schedules, rosters, and league communications.
Visit tvyfl.com →A well-structured practice is the foundation of a successful season. TVYFL allows no more than two practices per week during the season. Here's a recommended practice structure based on USA Football's National Practice Guidelines:
Movement prep, stretching, activation drills. Get athletes physically and mentally ready. Check equipment fit.
Position-specific drills. Heads Up Tackling and blocking technique. Footwork, routes, ball security.
Group drills, 7-on-7, team offense/defense. Implement game plan concepts and build team chemistry.
Football-specific conditioning. Sprints, agility, endurance. Monitor hydration and heat closely.
Static stretching, recovery. Team huddle — reinforce the day's lessons and Character, Commitment, Community.
Complete your annual Heads Up Football coach certification. Required before the first practice. New and returning coaches both access this portal.

Player safety is never negotiable. Any athlete suspected of a concussion is immediately removed from play. Proper equipment fitting and safe technique are enforced at every practice and game.
Coaches treat every athlete, parent, official, and opposing coach with respect at all times. There is zero tolerance for abusive language, physical contact, or intimidation of any kind.
Every athlete gets meaningful time and development opportunity. Flag football rules require equal play time and every athlete touching the ball — coaches enforce this without exception.
Communicate proactively with families through SportsEngine. Give adequate notice of schedule changes. Respond to parent questions with patience and professionalism.
Complete USA Football Heads Up certification before every season — no exceptions. Coaches who are not certified before the first practice do not coach until they are.
WYF's three pillars apply to coaches too. Model the behavior you want to see in your athletes. We care about the next 40 years of their lives — not just the next game.
